Early and Mail-in Voting, Registration

  • Early Voting starts 2 weeks from tomorrow, on September 24, at the Galesburg Election Office in City Hall for Galesburg citizens and at the Knox County Courthouse for voters living outside the city.  Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm, Saturdays 1-4 pm.

  • Vote-by-Mail:  submit an application at the Election Office (or Courthouse) by October 29.  Request an application at 309-345-3660.  Vote-by-Mail ballots may be physically deposited in the drop box located outside City Hall (or the Courthouse).  If you use the US postal service, make sure to mail your ballot several days before Election Day, to account for delivery delays. Given the current uncertainty regarding possible federal interference with mail-in voting, the safest bet is to deliver your ballot by hand to the drop box.

  • Registration: If you are not registered or have recently moved, you can check your registration status or register at the Election Office (or the Courthouse) and at https://ova.elections.il.gov, up through October 18, or through Nov. 3 at the Election Office/Courthouse.

  • Polling Places: Each election cycle, some polling places may change.  You can confirm your polling place on your registration card or on the Galesburg Election Office website, https://www.ci.galesburg.il.us/government/elected_officials___election_offices/galesburg_elections_commission/polling_places.php.

Supporting our Democratic Candidates

  • Yard Signs:  Putting out yard signs on your property can help generate awareness and name recognition for Democratic candidates, especially if you live on a frequently traveled street.   You can get yard signs at the Knox County Democratic Headquarters, 228 E. Main St. in Galesburg.  Official hours are 11-1 M-F and 10-4 Sat, but there is usually someone there most days (except Sunday), from 10-4.

  • Canvassing:  Face-to-face conversation is well documented as the most effective election strategy for candidates and supporters.  Just contributing a couple of hours can be incredibly helpful.  There will be organized general canvassing for Illinois Democratic candidates out of the Headquarters on Sept. 12, 19 and 26th, starting at 10 am. To volunteer, you can email our local DPI organizer, Alex Schrand at aschrand@ildems.com.

  • Volunteering at Headquarters: If you would like to volunteer a couple of hours a week to help staff the Democratic Headquarters, please reach out to Penny Gold, at pgold@knox.edu, and she will be happy to get you signed up.
